Terms of Use

ONEMILLIONNOTES™ (https://onemillionnotes.org) is a public archive where people can submit notes to be reviewed and, if approved, published as part of a living global record.

By using this website or submitting a note, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

This document is a starter policy for the project and is not legal advice.

You agree not to use ONEMILLIONNOTES™ to submit or share content that is:

• unlawful, abusive, harmful, or threatening
• hateful, harassing, or targeted abuse
• spam, scams, or deceptive promotional material
• impersonating another person or organisation
• sexually exploitative
• private or personal information about others without permission

You are responsible for what you submit. Do not use the site in any way that could harm others, overload the service, or interfere with its operation.

If your note is approved, it may be shown publicly on ONEMILLIONNOTES™, including in:

• Latest entries
• the public archive
• the globe and map
• public note pages

Only submit content you are comfortable being public. Do not include private addresses, phone numbers, financial details, or other sensitive personal information in your note.

All notes may be reviewed before publication. ONEMILLIONNOTES™ may approve, reject, hide, remove, or refuse notes at its discretion.

Moderation focuses on safety, legality, spam prevention, and protecting the archive. The guiding principle is:

The archive can be honest. It cannot be hostile.

A rejected note is not published in the public archive. Payment and refund terms are explained in our Refund Policy.

You keep ownership of the words you submit. By submitting a note, you grant ONEMILLIONNOTES™ a non-exclusive licence to store, display, publish, reproduce, and share your note as part of the archive and related project materials (including promotional or documentary use of the archive as a whole).

You confirm that you have the right to submit the content and to grant this permission.

Do not submit content that includes or promotes:

• threats or encouragement of violence
• hate speech or targeted abuse
• harassment or bullying
• doxxing or personal information about others
• sexual content involving minors
• illegal activity or illegal content
• spam, scams, or promotional links
• impersonation
• bot or junk submissions

ONEMILLIONNOTES™ may remove content and refuse service where these rules are breached.

Submitting a note may require a small payment to help operate the project and fund its stated impact commitments.

Optional creator support — including the £3 “buy me a coffee” tier — is separate from note publication. It is optional support for the creator and the wider project, not a requirement to leave a note in the archive.

ONEMILLIONNOTES™ publishes impact counters based on the project's stated funding rules:

• 10 notes fund 1 tree in Brazil
• 50 notes fund 1 tree in the United Kingdom
• 100 notes fund a £10 donation to WaterAid

We use the word funded, not planted. Counters reflect the project's internal funding model, not confirmed planting or delivery on a specific date.

This is not a claim of official partnership, endorsement, or charity status with WaterAid or any tree-planting organisation.

ONEMILLIONNOTES™ may change, pause, update, or take the site offline at any time. Features, design, and archive presentation may evolve as the project develops.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the website or that any particular note will remain visible forever.

ONEMILLIONNOTES™ is provided on an "as is" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept liability for loss or damage arising from your use of the site, reliance on published notes, or temporary or permanent unavailability of the archive.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the site after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
